About the Kassity Family School Fund
Formed in 2009 by Chris and Sharon Kassity, the Kassity Family School Fund (the Fund) is held at the Community Foundation of Western Nevada, a tax-exempt 501(c) (3) non-profit organization. School funding, programs, supplies and extracurricular activities are continually being cut from school budgets nationwide. With their own children attending school in Carson City, the Kassitys saw a way that they could give back and make a difference in the Northern Nevada communities where they do business: Carson City, Minden, Hawthorne, Yerington, Battle Mountain and Winnemucca. Through its fundraising programs, the Fund helps local schools maintain quality education in spite of budget deficits.
Who are the Kassitys
The Kassity family has a history as McDonald’s restaurant owners for more than 30 years. Chris and Sharon Kassity are local small business owners, living in Carson City, Nev. After selling their McDonald’s restaurants in Folsom, Calif., they purchased five locations in Carson City and Minden in 2004.
As stated on the McDonald’s Web site,
"We all have a duty to act responsibly. To do good. Participate in the lives of others. It’s about taking pride in the world we live in."
McDonald's founder, Ray Kroc, built the company on a foundation of ethical business conduct and involvement in our local communities. Franchisees are expected to give "best efforts," which includes giving back to, and being involved with, the local community. McDonald's Corporation, as well as its small business owners and operators, support education in many ways and the Fund is our way of giving back to our community.
